How to design a passive solar greenhouse?

A passive solar greenhouse is the one which attempts to capture the maximum solar energy and reduces the unwanted thermal exchange between the greenhouse and the surroundings. This maintains the desired temperatures.

  • The orientation of the greenhouse should be east to west.
  • The northern side of a greenhouse structure should be thermally insulated.
  • The northern side of a greenhouse which is facing the crop should be covered with a reflective surface. This makes sure that the sunlight is incident on it from the south side and is getting reflected onto the crops.
